Reform of self-government and decentralization: what do we hope for?

February 20, 2015 Ivano-Frankivsk hosted a panel discussion Reform of self-government and decentralization: what do we hope for? as part of Kyiv Dialogue Project.

The moderator at the event was one of the patrons of Kyiv Dialogue in Ukraine - Yuri Andrukhovych.

The members of the first panel discussion talked about the main concerns about the lack of reform exactly in the expansion of local self-governmental powers, and above all – the financial aspect of those powers and arrangement of administrative services for the public. This process also bears the upcoming local elections, which also affects the nature of the changes.

The second panel focused more on the ability of communities to take responsibility for them, and on the need to manage assets. This issue is particularly controversial in the context of war and spread of separatist sentiment in some regions.
